Video Bytes Of The Week – Gaming Edition

Special gaming edition this week. These are the games our family played over and over again this year. Please note that not all of these games came out this year, rather games we purchased and played this year.

I asked everyone in the house what games they enjoyed playing the most in 2010. Here are the results.

Plants vs. Zombies

When "PVZ" (as my husband and son call it) came out for the Xbox, they started co-op. It was a little odd listening to two boys saying things like "Drop a sunflower over there" or "The pea-shooter will take care of that", but nice to see them doing something together. You know, that whole father-son bonding thing with sunflowers and zombies is pretty cool.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Seriously, Lauren is bad-ass at this game. Unfortunately, she's also got one of the foulest mouths on the planet while she's playing. =/

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

While not an Xbox game, I can't talk about this family's favorite games without mentioning World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft is my husbands all-time favorite game, but when Blizzard Entertainment announced they were coming out with this expansion, my husband was like a little kid waiting for Santa. I have no idea why I'm not playing this game because it totally looks like my kind of game.

Fable 3

I should have a review for this game posted sometime this week. I was disappointed with a couple of things. Overall, I think it's a great game.

Dragon Age: Awakening

Awakening, while only an expansion to Dragon Age, didn't feel like an expansion at all. This was my personal favorite game of 2010.

Games We I Can Hardly Wait To Play:

Check out more on Skyrim at The Elder Scrolls facebook page. You may have read my post on Fable 3 coming out and how excited I was about that… Well, multiply that excitement ten fold, for this game!!

We Play A Lot Of Games:

Here are some of the other games our family played this year, and enjoyed (in no particular order).

  • Alan Wake
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Red Dead Redemption
  • Fallout 3
  • Assassins Creed 2
  • Guild Wars: Factions
  • Dantes Inferno – Actually this one is for me and it's still in the wrapper. I plan to start playing it today.

What about you and your family? What were your favorite games of 2010? Are there any games coming out in 2011 that you're looking forward to playing?

I love my Dragon Age game, but had no idea there was another one coming, YESS! I was planning to get Fable III. My husband plays the Black Ops and Red Dead Redemption. My husband and daughter play Halo Reach. We just got the Kinect and love it love it love it. At least its a game that gets us up off of our couch. I actually threw my shoulder out boxing my son…priceless. I love video games. A new Elder Scrolls! I cannot wait for that one.. now if I can figure out how to get my homework done while I am playing all these games…

I came so close to buying a new system with Kinect, but didn’t. I guess I’m just going to have to break down and do it. I know some have just bought the Kinect sensor, but not me… If I’m going to buy the sensor, I want the whole kit and kaboodle, including a new system to go along with it.

Oblivion – I almost wish they hadn’t announced the new one yet. I have to wait 11 months for it?! Talk about a tease. Those bastards.

We have Halo, but not Halo Reach. No one seemed interested in getting it.

I love our Kinect..just love it. We all play and there are no controls to keep up with. It puts our image on the screen and we laugh and play til we hurt. The only thing I see that is a disadvantage is space. You have to have a good amount of it to play against a person. We have a large living room area, but the couch is sometimes in the way a bit. Get it, it’s awesome.nnYeah, the wait is killing me for Oblivion, but it slides in nicely with my anniversary!nnMy daughter loves Halo Reach, because it reminds her of her father. Now she plays her stepdad and it puts a smile on her face. That is priceless to me.nnAs a side note, do you have a video camera? I am looking for a new one because my old one is the huge shoulder type from early 2000. I saw the Kodak playsport that is the size of a cell phone and can get wet and dusty and is shock resistant. My kind of electronic! What do you think?

        • I think it’s kinda neat how some things will remind of us good times with loved ones. I wonder what little things will remind my own kids of me once I’m gone.nnYa know, I’ve never thought about getting a video camera. I’ve never had one. You’re on your own there. Let me know what you decide on because now you’ve got me thinking about getting one too.
