Collecting things. Most of us have collected things at some point in our lives. My first collection – rocks. I'm not sure what my facination with rocks was, but I had quite the collection until the collection was lost during a family move. My second collection – stickers. Oh my goodness, I could not get enough stickers! Of course, Lisa Frank stickers were my favorite, but it really didn't matter what kind of stickers they were, I had to have them.
As I grew older my passion went from stickers to posters. Not only did I have (warning: clicking on the following links will make you have flashbacks) Pat Benatar, The Police, Earth, Wind and Fire, Phil Collins, Steve Perry, Commodores, and Prince (okay… not Prince – no way would my dad have allowed him) adorning my walls, I also had unicorns, kittens, and puppies, up on my walls. I even went through a button phase. You know, those buttons that you stick on hats, jackets, totes, everywhere.
I've been thinking about starting a new collection – something I can do with my youngest son. If you've hopped around these humble blog posts of mine, you probably know I'm a big superhero fan. The Avengers is scheduled to come out sometime next year. My youngest son, Jacob, is also a superhero fan. So that's decided, we'll focus on starting an Avengers collection, but here's the thing… What should I collect? Should I go with posters, t-shirts, comic books, etc… What do you think?
While you're thinking up suggestions, tell me, did you collect anything? Do you have any kind of a collection now? What was your first collection?

I collect books, have since I was a kid. I have no place to put them all, so I got a Kindle (but I still sneak new books into the house). I did posters (BeeGees to Duran Duran..then I grew up and it was Metallica, Megadeth & Iron Maiden). Buttons was also my thing, but they are all gone now. My biggest collection, other than books, is Wonder Woman. I have a ton. I started collecting silver bells with my husband, one each year we are together. I love photographs, and I horde them, family photographs. My son is a total pokemon card collector. My oldest collects awful boyfriends and Tim Burton objects. My middle daughter collects anything strange or spooky looking. My husband has a vast collection of Cal Ripken everything. I really like The Avengers, when I was a kid I liked the Fantastic Four though. If I were to start collecting, I suppose I would go for the comics. It might be the budget that determined which direction I went though. I bet the posters would look great on the wall. My son has a huge poster of the entire Marvel Heroes lineup, and it is amazing.
I remember hubby saying something about you being a huge Wonder Woman fan. That’s awesome. Sounds like the whole family is into collecting things. I think that’s great! You might be right about starting a comics collection. I like the posters idea the most.nnSilver bells? What kind of silver bells?nnPhotos – definitely not me. I keep meaning to take that up as a hobby, but I’m lucky if I can remember to take pics of anything. Although I know I could be a really good photographer.nnTim Burton – I’ll bet that’s a really cool collection!nn
All different kinds of sterling silver bells; hand bells, christmas bells. He engraves the year on each one at Christmas…i know, sick, eh? Hah. I did not even mention our mutual gun collection, some from his grandfather and mine. The photos I steal from every family member I come across. I am trying to scam some off my mother in law. I love old photos.
Nah. I don’t think that’s sick at all. Do you have them on display all together or kind of scattered throughout the house?nnI love the idea of collecting old photos. I really do. You’ve got me wondering if I should ask my aunt if she’s got some old pics lying around.
I have them out in the living room, so I can see them. I also have a nice shelf I will put them on one day when I find a place to hang the shelf. I think it is nice to have and for passing down to my kids.
