You’ve Inherited 300 Million Dollars! Almost.

I usually watch three or four movies during the weekend or catch up on shows I missed out on during the week, thanks to DVR. This weekend started out no different. I thought about taking my youngest to see Rango, but he didn't really seem interested. So I checked the DVR, only to find there wasn't anything to catch up on this week. My last resort is to check out On Demand and rent a movie. This time, instead of renting, I decided to check out what was showing in the Free Movies section.

It wasn't long before I saw an old, familiar movie – Brewster's Millions. If you're anywhere close to my age, you'll remember the movie with Richard Pryor and John Candy. The kids and I decide to watch it.

I must've been in my late teens when I saw it the first time. Yes, yes. I know a lot of people would say this movie was a complete disaster but I thought it was still fun to watch and even more fun to fantasize about how I would spend that kind of money in thirty days.

Now, at this point, I could write a quick review of the movie. Or my thoughts on the value of money. I could write about I could even write about baseball. But I don't care about all that.

What I want to know is what you'd do if you were faced with this challenge. How would you spend thirty million dollars in thirty days?

Here's a reminder of the conditions:

You:

  1. must spend thirty million dollars in thirty days;
  2. cannot have any assets at the end of that thirty days;
  3. must get value for the services of anyone you hire;
  4. are allowed to donate 5% (only) to charity
  5. are allowed to lose 5% through gambiling
  6. may not give away of the money, either in the form of cash or anything tangible (jewelry, car, house, etc.)
  7. may not destroy anything that is inherently valuable (like buy something expensive, then burn it)
  8. must not tell anyone about these conditions

Would you even attempt to go crazy and spend the thirty million? Or would you "wimp" out and take one million dollars and walk away?

    I would spend that money traveling for thirty days, in style. I saw that movie a long while ago, and it is funny. I liked “The Toy” better, and “Stir Crazy.” I talked my kids into watching both of those. I actually don’t think I could spend that much in a month, but I would love to try. I most likely would eat way too much rich foods and drink.

  2. First thing to do on my list is to spend at least one night at all of these hotels http://goo.gl/pltdl and bring the extended family and friends along with me. I wonder how much money we could spend at Disney. I’d pay people to do crazy stuff like streak the hotel lobby, while singing pop goes the weasel or something. Of course, I’d spend most of that time loopy – not drunk – just loopy. Oh the FUN I would have trying to spend that kind of money.
